Susan LaVenture

Susan LaVenture is Executive Director of the National Association for Parents of Children with Visual Impairments (NAPVI). Through her collaborative work in the medical and educational arenas for over 20 years, she has been a leader in the development of nonprofit parents’ organizations and programs that provide and promote support, education and advocacy for families throughout the world.
Ms. LaVenture holds a Graduate Certificate in Management from the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Learning, Harvard University. She earlier took coursework at the Graduate College of Education at the University of Massachusetts.
She has written and edited broadly in her specialty. The author of A Parent's Guide to Special Education for Children with Visual Impairments (AFB Press, 2007) and Managing Editor of Childhood Glaucoma: A Reference Guide for Families, she serves as editor of NAPVI’s Awareness magazine and is co-director of www.familyconnect.org, a website for parents of children with visual impairments.
Among many current professional appointments, she represents the World Blind Union, serving on the Committee on Children with Disabilities of the NGO Committee on UNICEF.
