A message from TGF President & CEO Elena Sturman

Dear Readers,
I’m excited to announce the completion of TGF’s 2025 TGF Art Challenge to Celebrate Vision, which has raised $33,572 that will help fund glaucoma research in our next grant cycle.
Congratulations to our fundraising winner, artist Kristel Scheerlinck, who raised $7,385. Congratulations as well to Maria Catalina Pizarro Peňaranda, whose entry was voted favorite artwork.
I sincerely thank all who took the challenge and helped bring an artist’s vision into focus with a donation. The Art Challenge broadens our circle of friends in an innovative way, with artists and art lovers participating in support of our research program. Every dollar raised will help support the Foundation’s 2026 research grant cycle.
Raising funds at all levels is essential for the Glaucoma Foundation to carry out its array of initiatives that fund research and improve the lives of people with glaucoma.
This year’s Art Challenge participants were predominantly people with compromised vision. In this issue you will read about the advocacy of one of the artists participating in the Challenge. “You can express yourself in different ways through art and creativity even if you don’t have 100 percent of your vision,” she says.
You will also read about promising research that is unlocking a new molecular understanding of glaucoma so we can stop vision loss.
I want you to know how grateful we at TGF are for you, our friends and supporters, who make our research and educational initiatives possible. You are vital to our work and deeply appreciated!
December 2nd is Giving Tuesday, an annual global day of generosity that encourages people to give back to their favorite non-profits and to the world at large. We hope you will respond generously as you have in the past.
As we approach Thanksgiving, we enter a season of gratitude. At TGF, we are truly thankful for each and every one of you — our supporters, partners, and community. Your dedication and generosity continue to bring us closer to one shared goal: finding a cure for glaucoma.
For these final months of 2025, the Foundation and I wish you and your families a very happy and healthy holiday season.
With gratitude,
Elena Sturman
