A message from TGF President & CEO Elena Sturman

Dear Readers,
January is Glaucoma Awareness Month. If you haven’t scheduled an annual eye exam, we urge you to do that now. Early diagnosis and regular treatment can save your sight.
TGF is spreading the word on many fronts. In addition to a national televised public service announcement about glaucoma and the importance of comprehensive eye exams, we’ve launched a campaign for social media. Every day this month, a different poster will highlight messages from glaucoma patients, doctors and advocates. We thank our co-sponsors in this endeavor to raise awareness: Bausch + Lomb, iCare, Topcon, Life Biosciences, Sight Sciences, and Glaukos.
Research and education are the core of TGF’s mission. We ended 2025 with the announcement of four new research grants and six new glaucoma fellowship winners. We’re supporting a clinical trial out of Columbia University for nicotinamide and pyruvate, and the groundbreaking research of Dr. Adriana DiPolo, Dr. Jeffrey Goldberg, and Dr. Thomas Johnson. In this issue, you can read the transcript of an exciting talk by Dr. Johnson on the prospect of restoring vision.
On the education front, we’ve scheduled our first two webinars of the new year. Save the date and register for a discussion of Your Genes & Your Vision: Understanding Glaucoma Risk with Dr. Louis Pasquale and glaucoma patient Hillary Golden on January 13. Then, on January 28, Dr. Jullia A. Rosdahl of Duke Eye Center will present Living and Thriving with Glaucoma: Practical Skills for Work, Driving, Parenting, and Daily Life.
In closing, we thank you for being a newsletter reader and a supporter of TGF’s efforts. In the year ahead, we look forward to answering your questions and addressing subjects of importance to you. If there are topics you would like us to explore in future issues, please let us know at info@glaucomafoundation.org.
With all best wishes for a happy and healthy New Year,
Elena Sturman
