Dr. David Solá-Del Valle (known as Dr. Solá) is a glaucoma and cataract specialist. He became Chief Medical Officer at Chittick Eye Care and Associate Professor at the Carle Illinois College of Medicine in Champaign, IL in February 2024. He was assistant professor at Harvard Medical School until December 2023, where he taught residents, fellows, and medical students in addition to conducting clinical research with an emphasis on glaucoma medications, laser therapy, and microinvasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS). He has continued his research at Massachusetts Eye and Ear with Dr. Milica Margeta developing IOP-independent therapies for glaucoma. He finished his glaucoma fellowship at Bascom Palmer in 2016 as a Heed Fellow after graduating ophthalmology residency from Massachusetts Eye and Ear and doing an internal medicine internship at Massachusetts General Hospital. He received his medical degree with distinction (Alpha Omega Alpha) from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 2011 after performing oncology research at the European Institute of Oncology in Italy for a year and graduating magna cum laude from Harvard College in 2005. He speaks French, Italian, and Spanish fluently having lived in various countries around the world and enjoys being a busy clinician/surgeon/researcher who takes care of a diverse patient population.
