Dear Readers,

We’ve been spreading the word with spectacular visibility. If you have been on social media platforms during January, you probably saw our series of daily postings about glaucoma and the Foundation which ran every day throughout Glaucoma Awareness Month. The good news? Followers on Facebook increased by 818% while LinkedIn followers increased by 791%. Instagram stats are equally impressive.

At the same time, our public service announcement, “We See You,” aired on high-profile television programs across the country, reaching a diverse audience with an estimated 46,162,667 impressions.

We also held two webinars during Glaucoma Awareness Month. You’ll read about them in this newsletter.  The first offered an info-packed hour of practical skills for living – even thriving with glaucoma. The second delved into your genes and glaucoma and the progress and use of a polygenic glaucoma risk score for diagnosis and treatment.

Some of our readers will know the name of Joe Lovett, the producer, glaucoma patient and award-winning filmmaker, whose inspirational documentary “Going Blind” has been widely shown. The film documents Lovett’s own difficult journey with glaucoma, and that of five other remarkable people. Joe passed away in July and he bequeathed his film to The Glaucoma Foundation. We are honored to share it with you and others via our website.

Looking ahead, we’ve scheduled our next webinar for March 18, when Dr. Barbara Wirostko will review the current status of patient care with home IOP tonometry.

And lastly, but certainly not least, we are looking forward to our Annual Gala, to be held this year on April 16 at the elegant Mandarin Oriental in Manhattan, benefiting the programs and initiatives of the Foundation. At this dinner the Kitty Carlisle Hart Award of Merit for Lifetime Achievement will be presented to Daria Becker Barry, principal at Prospect Capital Management and co-founder of The John and Daria Barry Family Foundation. The Patient Empowerment Award will be presented to Hillary A. Golden, patient, advocate, and founder of Glaucoma Coach. And superstar musician and producer Nile Rodgers will receive the Chairman’s Spotlight Award! It would be wonderful to greet you there!

With ongoing thanks for all your support,
