A message from TGF President & CEO Elena Sturman

Dear Readers,
Funding cutting-edge research has been at the core of TGF’s mission to find a cure for glaucoma since our founding 42 years ago. And research was front and center at our recent Anniversary Gala, as you will read. At that celebratory event in April, we were thrilled when the recipient of the Kitty Carlisle Hart Award of Merit for Lifetime Achievement, philanthropist Daria Becker Barry, announced a major $5 million dollar pledge for research that will open new doors to help us get closer to eradicating blindness from glaucoma. We are exceedingly grateful!
Education has been another vital component of our efforts. To better understand the possibilities and research status of AI tools for glaucoma, we thank Mount Sinai’s Professor Alon Harris and Fellow Gal Jacob Cohen for answering some important questions about how AI is impacting the diagnoses and care of glaucoma. In this issue’s “Doctor, I Have a Question” feature, numerous questions are answered. More detailed answers to the same questions will be posted on our website.
Another timely educational initiative is our biennial Glaucoma Symposium, an accredited CE/CME seminar for professionals, this year about advancing glaucoma care. The Symposium on May 30 will include sessions on surgical innovations, what’s new in glaucoma diagnosis, and what’s new in glaucoma therapy, focusing on the current state of neuroprotection.
We are heartened by the response to our webinars that continue to gain in popularity. We’re happy to announce that one more webinar is scheduled this summer. Some of you will recall reading about Dr. Jeffrey Goldberg’s promising insulin research and clinical trials in this newsletter last year. On August 5th, Dr. Goldberg will give an update on this vital research – a promising prospect for neuroprotection or maybe even neuroenhancement.
It is the support from all our friends that makes these initiatives possible. Enjoy the summer in good health and remember to protect your eyesight when you’re enjoying the outdoors.
With gratitude,
Elena Sturman
